15 August 2018
On Sunday 12th August, we held our Greater Manchester Westie Walk, in aid of the Westie Rescue Scheme.
I usually take our donation bucket, but yesterday I did it a little different. I charged a £1 per dog. We had a
good turn out with 16 westie's joining us. With the generosity of the Westie's humans, we raised a total of
We all met at the Hollingworth Lake Visitor Centre at 12 ready to start our walk at 12-30.
We all set off and headed for the lake. We walked along the road till we reached the campsite then just
after there we could let them off the lead.
They all had a wonderful time exploring some even had to explore what the Horses had left behind, some
also thought it was a delicacy. But less said about that the better.
We walked along the path at the side of the lake until we reached the cafe.
We had a rest, the dogs had a drink, and some of the humans went in the cafe for their refreshment, and
we took this gorup photo, but some of the Westie's were a little camera shy and wouldn't come on the
photo. Then we set off back along the trail we had previously walked.
The weather was kind to us, and it never rained, which was good. We headed back to the Visitor Centre,
where we said our farewells until our next walk on the second Sunday in September.
If anyone in the Greater Manchester area would like to join us, then please see our Greater Manchester
Westie Walk Facebook page.
We are a national organisation formed by the late Barbara Graham in the late 1970's. Initially we consisted of a few caring colleagues who struggled to make ends meet against all odds and in the face of adversity. The more widely recognised The Westie Rescue Scheme of the present day came into being in 1993. The Scheme now has over 2500 registered 'friends'.
The WRS Dog Sponsorship Scheme is there to care for those Westies who require indefinite and intensive treatment.
This initiative was first brought into existence in 2006 and is designed to help us to continue to care for those dogs who may stay within the scheme for a longer period of time than normal or, as is the case in many instances, indefinitely.
This is the official online home of the UK registered Westie Rescue Scheme charity. It is hoped that through this exciting medium, we are able to provide our 'Friends' (members) and potential new 'Friends' with more information about the Scheme and our successes.
