25 April 2017

Provisional date for the Sunday April 15 2018.

After the 24th Westie Walk in 2016, our son suggested that to publicise this years event to a larger audience, we should have a social media page on Facebook.

Thanks to Ralphs help, this was set up and we now have a large following on York Westie Walk Facebook page,  where photos of this walk can be viewed.

This year saw 62 Westies being signed in at the advertised meeting point on Knavesmire Road, with a further 6 more joining us late in the walk.

As well as Yorkshire residents, visitors came from Newcastle, Hexham, Darlington, Spennymoor, Manchester & Liverpool.

One long distance travelling Westie, Sprocket, came to us via a 5,000 mile journey around France, Spain Gibraltar, Algarve and Portugal, finally visiting the York Westie Walk before heading home to the Isle of Wight.

In glorious warm sunshine we left Knavesmire Road, crossed the racecourse and completed a circuit around the inside of the racecourse.   A distance of about two miles, this was a little too much for some of the older Westies (and some owners!), so several of us took a short cut across the centre of the racecourse.

One 4 month old Westie was observed fast asleep in its owner’s arms not far from the start of the walk.

On completion of the circuit a number of the walkers met up at the doggy friendly Knavesmire Hotel and quenched their thirsts with a well deserved drink.

All the dogs were on their best Sunday behaviour.

A collection for Westie Rescue was held on the day and the participants donated £312.80.

During the following week further contributions were received amounting to £50.00.

Cheques for £362.80 have now been forwarded to Westie Rescue Secretary, Mags Evans.

Please keep this space free in your diary,  Sunday April 15 2018, as this is the provisional date for the 26th Annual York Westie Walk.

Keep up the good work,  Best wishes,    Sandra & Vic Smith and Isla.
