York Annual Westie Walk 2022 The 29th Annual Westie Walk, in aid of Westie Rescue Scheme will take place on York Knavesmire on Sunday 24th April 2022 at 3.00pm. Owners are invited to bring their West Highland Terriers for a leisurely stroll around York Racecourse. We will meet up at the gateway on Knavesmire Road, opposite Knavesmire Crescent. The nearest post code is YO23 1ET. Newcomers welcome at this friendly fun walk, & we look forward to seeing old friends too. Donations in aid of Westie Rescue Scheme appreciated. Please note that there are no facilities on The Knavesmire.
We can assure you that your Westie will have had its new home checked and approved. The new owners will be told all that you have told us about your Westie.
We are a national organisation formed by the late Barbara Graham in the late 1970's. Initially we consisted of a few caring colleagues who struggled to make ends meet against all odds and in the face of adversity. The more widely recognised The Westie Rescue Scheme of the present day came into being in 1993. The Scheme now has over 2500 registered 'friends'.
The WRS Dog Sponsorship Scheme is there to care for those Westies who require indefinite and intensive treatment.
This initiative was first brought into existence in 2006 and is designed to help us to continue to care for those dogs who may stay within the scheme for a longer period of time than normal or, as is the case in many instances, indefinitely.
